GPSA Meetings

Below are the TENTATIVE meetings dates for the GPSA during the 2022 calendar year. All meeting are held on the third Monday of the month in the GPSA at Massari Arena. Dates are subject to change if necessary.

Banquet Date/Application Deadline

The deadline for nominations each year is Aug. 1.  The 2022 Banquet is tentatively set for Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022. Go to the Application tab above to download and fill out an application today.

Fred A. Pechek, Jr.

High School: Attended Pueblo Catholic High.

College: Went to the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, graduating in 1963

Advanced Education: Pechek continued his post-graduate studies at Notre Dame, earning a Masters Degree in 1966... He graduated with a second Masters Degree from Purdue University (PU) in Lafayette, IN in 1969.

Coaching Background: Spent three years (1973-75) as the head wrestling coach at Notre Dame while also teaching Physical Education activity courses... he led the Irish to a 24-18-1 record....Moved to Oceanside, CA where where he was named the defensive coach of the football team for eight seasons at Mira Costa College (MCC)...He was also the men's and women's tennis coach at MCC for 16 years and the wrestling coach for four seasons.

Contributor: Fred spent 12 years as a teacher coach at the following schools:
1963-1964    Taught Math, Civics, & Physical Education at Vineland Jr. High School, Pueblo
                        Coached Football, Basketball, Wrestling and Track
1964-1967    Graduate Assistant in Physical Education at Notre Dame Univ as Assistant Coach
1967-1968    Catskill, NY.  Taught English and Physical Education
1968-1969    Graduate Assistant in Physical Education and Varsity Wrestling Coach at PU
                        While completing 2nd Masters Degree
1969-1975    Liberty State College - Assistant Professor of Physical Education.  Head Wrestling
                        Coach and Assistant Football Coach.

Occupation: Pechek worked at Mira Costa College starting in 1975 and retired on May 24, 2002.        

Personal: Fred was married to Dottie... He passed away on December 2, 2005.
