● Set a Chicago Cub Record for most appearances for a relief pitcher with 61 appearances in 1956.
● Broke his own record the following season (1957) with 67 appearances.
● Won the American League Pennant in 1959 with the Chicago White Sox.
● Was twice voted as the "Most Valuable Player" with Valdosta (1942) and the Pueblo Dodgers (1948).
● The first time he faced each of the following "Baseball Greats" (Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams and Stan Musial) he struck them out.
