Attended Pueblo Central H.S. and dropped out in 1928 to work at the Colorado Fuel and Iron (CF&I).
Athletic Background:
● Enjoyed boxing, softball and volleyball.
● Won the Light Heavyweight State Golden Gloves Championship and the Southern Colorado Golden Gloves Championship in 1936 & 1937.
● Played softball into his 50's and played in the National Tournament.
● Played on a national championship team in volleyball.
Coaching Career:
Coached youth boxing at the Steel City Y and the Catholic Youth Organization from 1936 into the late 1940’s.
Honors:
Served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II (1942-45).
Occupation:
● Steelworker Retired (1974) after 45 yrs at C.F.& I.
● Owned a tavern on Santa Fe Across from C.F.&I
Personal:
Lived in Pueblo with his wife, Juanita...He was the father of Gary Knafelc, who was a Charter Honoree of the GPSA...Passed away on September 29, 1990.
