Attended Watonga H.S., in Watonga, OK, graduating in 1950...Played four years of football (1946-49), basketball (1947-50) and baseball (1947-50) for the Eagles. In baseball, Stutters was an During the summer months in high school (1946-49), played on the American Legion baseball squad. Led the team in hitting (.538 batting average in 1948) and was twice named to the All-American Legion Tournament Team (1948-49).
