Attended Pueblo South H.S., graduating in 1986...Played four years (1982-86) on the football (linebacker), basketball (center) and track teams (shot/discus) for the Colts...Lettered three years in each sport.

Achievements:
Hgh School:
● Two time All-City, All-Conference selection playing on the Colts football team (1985-86).
● Leading tackler on the team and earned a selection to the All-State football team in 1986.
● Finalist for the Denver Post Gold Helmet Award in 1986.
● Won the Father John Power Outstanding Student & Athlete Award (1986).

College:
Went to West Virginia University (WVU) and graduated in 1991...Played four seasons (and lettered) on the Mountaineers football team at linebacker.

● Haering was First in Big East Conference (BEC), Career Tackles - 222 (1986-89).
● Ranked 10th in BEC, Unassisted Tackles - 194 (1986-89).
● Played on WVU football team that went undefeated and played Notre Dame for the National Championship in the Fiesta Bowl (1988).
● Football team captain in 1989.
● Against Rutgers Haering recorded 23 tackles, second highest total in BEC (1989).
● Selected to the 1989 Associated Press All-East and Academic All-East Team.
● Earned First Team All-American (Newspaper Enterprises Association/World Book) an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American (1989).

● Nominated for National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award (1989).
● Earned the Toyota Leadership Award presented at the Gator Bowl (1989).
● Selected as the Ira E. Rogers Award for top Student Athlete (1989).
● Awarded the Louis D. Meisel Award for the senior football player with the highest academic average presented by the UWV Alumni (1989).
● Received the Gridiron Gladiator Award (1989).

Started his coaching career at Hampton H.S. in PA, where he went 8-3 in his only season (1994-95) as the teams' head football coach..Haering has been the head coach football coach for 13 years at Mt. Lebanon H.S., PA since 1995 and has recorded a record of 86-35... Selected four times (1999, 2000, 2001 and 2005) as the Quad A Western Division "Coach-of-the-Year"...Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League "Coach-of-the-Year" in 2000...Selected to coach in the "BIG 33" game in Hersey, PA in 2005
