GPSA Meetings

Below are the TENTATIVE meetings dates for the GPSA during the 2022 calendar year. All meeting are held on the third Monday of the month in the GPSA at Massari Arena. Dates are subject to change if necessary.

Peter C. "Pete" Pomeleo

High School: Attended Pueblo Central H.S., graduating in 1949...Played football (1946-48), basketball (1947-49) and track (1947-49) for the Wildcats, earning nine varsity letters...On the football team, Pomeleo was an All-League selection while playing on the State Championship team in 1947 as an End...He was given the Demolay Award, that goes to the outstanding player of the Central-Centennial conference game...As a member of the track team, Peter set the South Central League record in the Shot Put with a toss of 46' 8".

College: Went to Pueblo Junior College for two years (1949-51) and was a member of the football, basketball and track teams for two seasons where he earned six varsity letters (two in each sport).. Pomeleo transferred to the University of Denver where he worked for KOA radio station while attending D.U. on a full football scholarship before graduating in 1954...He played two seasons of football for the Pioneers, as a Tackle and End and earned All-Conference both years.

After College: Pomeleo was approached by the New York Giants for draft and declined, deciding that he wanted to teach and coach.    

Coaching Background: Pomeleo was the head football and basketball coach at Cripple Creek H.S., for two years (1954-55)... His team was Division Champions in 1954...He coached four sports, taught History, and drove School Bus...Peter continued his coaching career as head coach of both the football and basketball teams at Boone H.S., for 14 years (1944-58)...He coached the basketball squad to two championships.

Administration: Peter taught Physical Education at Freed Middle School and also at Washington Grade School for seven years (1958-65).

    ROTC Lt. Colonel - Proficiency award by the Department of Army, signed by Omar Bradley - first ever awarded to an ROTC

Contributor: Peter conducted after school recreation for boys and girls three times a week from 1958-82...Served as a women's volleyball official for three years with the Parks and Recreation Department.

Occupation: Pomeleo was a Teacher/Coach.

Personal: Lived in Pueblo with his wife, Norma Jean...Passed away on February 11, 1983.
