GPSA Meetings

Below is a list of remaining meetings dates for the GPSA during the 2018 calendar year. All meeting held on the third Monday from Jan. to May and Aug. through Nov. in the GPSA at Massari Arena. Dates are subject to change if necessary.

Application Deadline

The deadline for nominations each year is Aug. 1.  The 2018 Banquet is tentatively set for Wednesday, Nov. 14. Go to the Application Tab above to download and fill out an application today.

William L. "Bill" McClatchy

Before High School. Bill attended Columbian, Park View and Fountain Grade Schools in Pueblo.

High School: Attended Pueblo Centennial H.S., graduating in 1929.

Achievements: McClatchy used his experience as a route carrier, mail room employee and high school correspondent as a stepping stone to full-time newspaper reporter....He realized his dream of joining the staff of the Star-Journal starting in January, 1929... With enough credits to graduate, but still lacking his diploma from Pueblo Centennial H.S., Bill became a full-time member of editorial staff as an industrial reporter....When the Star-Journal Publishing Corp., acquired ownership of the Chieftain in 1938, McClatchy was assigned to the staff of the morning newspaper as police and city hall reporter, a job he held until 1941.

Military: Bill served in the Army for four years, including two years in the China-Burma-India theater.  Bill resumed work on January 20, 1946 at the Chieftain as the newspaper's sports editor.

Honors: Bill was a member of the Southern Colorado State College’s Booster’s Club executive committee... He was also active with the Pueblo franchise in the old Western League.

Occupation: McClatchy was a Sports Editor for the Pueblo Chieftain for 45 years... He started at The Chieftain on January 20, 1911.
Personal: Lived in Pueblo... Passed away on November 20, 1981 at age 70.
