GPSA Meetings

Below is a list of remaining meetings dates for the GPSA during the 2017 calendar year. All meeting held on the third Monday from Jan. to May and Aug. through Nov. in the GPSA at Massari Arena. Dates are subject to change if necessary.

Wayne Gerard Pechek

Before High School: Played three years (1971-73) of American Legion baseball as a pitcher... Earned Most Valuable Pitcher, American Legion and All-Tourney American Legion Team.  

High School: Attended Roncalli and Pueblo Central H.S., graduating in 1973. Played baseball (pitcher) in high school, starting at Roncalli for a year and earning a varsity letter before transferring to Pueblo Central and play two more seasons (1972-73) earning two more letters...Wayne was named to the All-South Central League Team and was the MVP of the State Tournament...He also ran cross country at Roncalli for a year (1971) and earned one varsity letter.

College: Went to the University of Oklahoma...Played three years (1974-76) of baseball for the Sooners, winning three consecutive Big 8 championships and helping OU to three College World Series Appearances.                        

Semi-Pro Baseball: Pechek played for a season with the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in 1975, a team that finished third in the National Tournament... He also played for six seasons (1976-81) in the San Francisco Giants organization and one year (1981-82) for the California Angels organization in Major League Baseball (MLB).  

Coaching Background: Pechek got his start in coaching baseball as an assistant coach at Phillips University from 1982-83...He moved to Nevada to work as an assistant coach at the University of Las Vegas for two seasons (1983-85) before returning to Colorado to serve as an assistant coach at Trinidad State Junior College for two years (1985-87)... Wayne has worked in MLBs Toronto Blue Jays organization as an Associate Baseball Scout since 1995.

Achievements: Pechek was drafted and signed into professional baseball by the San Francisco Giants, by scout Gene Thompson, out of the University of Oklahoma.  His other accomplishments include:
   Class A - Professional baseball Midwest league Champions (Wayne finished third in stolen bases in 1977 behind Ricky
   Henderson).
   Class A - California League, San Francisco Giants organization: Fresno Giants - Player of the Month for June 1977.
   Class AA - Shreveport Captains Player of the Month in July 1979.
   Class AAA - Salt Lake City Gulls (CA. Angels) Player of the Month for August 1981.
   Career .300 hitter in professional baseball for six years.
   Selected - Greater Pueblo Sports Association for Outstanding Achievement in Baseball  - Awarded July 1974
   
Occupation: Fireman
   
Personal: Lives in Pueblo with his wife, Lori.
