Below is a list of remaining meetings dates for the GPSA during the 2017 calendar year. All meeting held on the third Monday from Jan. to May and Aug. through Nov. in the GPSA at Massari Arena. Dates are subject to change if necessary.

Joseph "Joe Awful" Coffee

High School: Attended Pueblo Central H.S.

College:  Went to  the University of Denver

Boxing Career: Spent 10 years (1910-28) boxing professionally at the Flyweight division..."The Battling Newsboy of Pueblo" started his boxing career when he was 15 years old.  In his first year as a professional he whipped Sidney "Kid" Plank for the Flyweight Championship of Colorado...Joe won the Bantamweight division from Jimmy Kelleher of Trinidad and in 1922, still growing, He beat Don "Terror" Long for the Colorado Featherweight Championship... Coffee put together a record of 5 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw in 12 Featherweight fights...Others Coffee fought were: Sid Terris, Joe Black, Jimmie McLarnen, Joie Stanger, Stewart McLean, Jack Doyle, Eddie Shea, Fidel la Barba, Buddy Taylor, Billy Petrolle "The Fargo Express"

Coaching career: Joe was both a Boxing Coach and Football Trainer at the University of Denver

Achievements: In February of 1976, the GPSA sent a telegram to Joe “Awful” Coffee congratulating him on his Induction into the Colorado Hall of Fame

Occupation: Coffee was a contact Manager for the May Co., in Denver - before entering the restaurant business... Was the owner of the Ringside Lounge - 1120 Seventeenth St., Denver, CO

Personal: Passed away on March 7, 1994
