GPSA Meetings

Below is a list of remaining meetings dates for the GPSA during the 2017 calendar year. All meeting held on the third Monday from Jan. to May and Aug. through Nov. in the GPSA at Massari Arena. Dates are subject to change if necessary.

Dan Luna

High School: Attended Pueblo Central H.S. and graduated in 1950...Played tennis for the Wildcats at No. 1 Singles in 1950...Luna was the first Hispanic to win the State Tennis Championship at No.1 Singles, defeating Irving Hoffman in the Semi-finals and Garth Jones from Boulder in the finals.  

College: Went to Colorado University (CU), graduating 1954...Played four years of tennis for the Buffaloes and helped lead CU to the Big 8 Championship.

Coaching Background: Dan worked as the head tennis coach at both Pueblo South and Pueblo Central high Schools... He was the first pro to be hired  and the Pueblo Country Club where he worked for three years.

Accomplishments: Dan formed the Luna Tennis Foundation which provided tennis opportunities for low-income, minority and inner city kids...He became one of the First Hispanics to become a USTA (United States Tennis Association) teaching Professional...Still the only Hispanic ever to win the state high school Tennis Championship in the largest school bracket...Recognized as a leader in the sport of tennis and as such has been appointed to the USTA's National Minority Participation Committee.

Occupation:  Teacher/Coach

Personal: Lives in Denver, CO.
